RZ350 problem, Noisy tach is it repairable?
Got it running good, then recently what sounds like a buzzer coming out of the tach gauge asesembly when above 3000 rpm, its not over heating, runs good,  it sounds like a weak horn, similar to overheat alarm on outboards. It stopped doing it when the tach cable was disconnected,  Tach cable looked fine and was oiled and replaced, wonder if the tach is bad?  Any ideas fellow smokers?

its the tachometer itself, common problem when the bushing in the gauge wears. you can lube it. (or try to).

I changed the subject title, its def the Tach making the noise, this is a first for me, owned many RZ350 and RZ500 over the years and never had a tach problem, going to try to lube it but I am guessing its done.

take gauge cluster apart,i think you can get to it from there, from the top under the magnet wheel with a syringe to the main shaft.

its getting common these days. age and all.

Yep, take the instrument off, invert it on the bench and use a bit of  spray chain lube(grease type) and a bit of WD40, this will penetrate down the shaft and not dry out too quickly

I have to do both my tach and speedo a couple times a year minimum. I bought a Koso RX2 GP as I am tired of taking it apart and lubing it. I hope to have time to start the install soon.

I took it apart, everything is clean, a little bit of radial play on the shaft. Unbelievable it made so much noise and no noticeable damage. Will try lubing it, I found a used RZ tach on ebay for just $12, its prob junk but cheap enough to gamble with , will wait to see what kind of shape its in, before I reassemble it. Is there a bolt in alternative for this part, surely must of been used in other models? Thanks for the great advice guys.

I replaced my tach, lubricated everything, and the replacement acted just like the original. So, I went ahead and installed the Koso that I bought just in case that happened. The hardest part was modifying the the bracket that holds the speedometer sensor. There is not enough room between the caliper and the fork without modifying or, replacing it. I used a hand grinder with a cutoff wheel. I'll be programming it today. Fingers crossed!
