Title: Rd400 wire harness ground locations
Post by: D.e.e. on October 25, 2019, 03:30:49 PM
Lights occasionally flicker and engine cutting out.  Only 250 miles on complete rebuild. Was running fine. Trying to get the jetting right and now this. Not sure if I missed a ground or one came loose. Running dyna s if it matters. Thanks

Make sure you have a good ground from the engine to the frame.

Yes to running a extra ground on 400's with rubber mounted engine cases.
Pull tank off, under the right coil mount is the harness ground wire eyelet.
If you strip the harness cover there you will find a soldered joint about 2 inches in.
Thats the one that is bad all the time and hard to find!
Re-solder it and run your engine ground there and your set.

I always make an additional ground harness with brass eyelets going from one of the rear upper engine case bolts to neg. battery terminal on every RD400 that's getting a Dyna ignition ( in addition to checking the factory grounds).I have had 2 different 400's drop a pick up module in the past. You can never have too many grounds.
