Title: Grom : progress and 4 stroke problems
Post by: m in sc on February 18, 2019, 03:29:14 PM
So, i have a '14 honda grom. its a dumb fun little money pit. I bought it black, then changed the body set to white for a few years, and this weekend decided to mount the red set i have. Its a 170 4v big bore with a ridiculous amount of modifications.

Anyway, they have issues with cam chain components when you hot rod them, and they make the upgraded adjuster, etc. However, in true 4 stroke fashion, it decided to eat the idler wheel in the cylinder. found chunks of it (rubber outer wheel) in the oil this go around of an oil change i did when i swapped the body work, so i have to tear the head off and replace the wheel while im in there im going to shave the cyl (deck it) about .015" to jack up the compression a  hair.

here it is in red:

There have been some crazy mods to those things, they look like a bunch of fun.

There's a guy in Brisbane cruising around with a 300 Ninja engine in his, I'm pretty sure you can buy a kit to mount those.

I really want an overpowered electric one to commute on - it's a shame the Suzuki Extrigger never materialised: https://evnerds.com/electric-vehicles/e-motorcycle-news/suzuki-extrigger-electric-moto/
But you could do an electric conversion of a grom: http://www.bikeexif.com/custom-honda-grom-zero-electric

Assuming you don't hate electrics - god the torque... would be a fun package.

What's your bike top out at? And happily cruise at?
Probably not the best for my commute along highways.

I remember when you picked that up from the dealer. I've been watching the progress of that Grom over the years. Leave it to Mark to continually push the modification envelope! :science:

There are few of those around here that I see guys riding full-on hooligan style throuigh traffic. In So Cal, that's just begging to die young.
