Hoping there is a degreaser out there that isnt a pain to use. water solluable would be good if that exists. Id like to just rinse it off.

What are you cleaning? Dawn dish washing liquid is good.
foamy engine brite, coin car wash. then you still have to scrub it. lol. get a case of brake cleaner.
(if you are doing cases).
oops forgot! tes the engine cases and the dense gunk. I tried dish washing liquid on a small part but the grease did seem to car at all and didnt breakdown.

lol turns out that stuff i found in Walmart is for "stripping" dirt off. I can believe I'm having so much trouble finding paint stripper. I read some more and it seems to get this sort of engine paint you need something evil. I'm gonna put this aside and just keep the covers black and next winter turn my attention to stuff like that. My plan this whole time was just sink money into the motor, get some tires, get it running properly and enjoy it for a summer like that.
I like using totally awesome cleaner. Only a dollar at the dollar store.

I recently found out about kerosene on chains/sprockets. WOW! works so good and so EASY. no reason to have a dirty chain.
I've always used kerosene in my parts washer. Recently I switched to water and dish soap. There's no doubt that Kerosene is a better degreaser and solvent. It's not good for anybody's health or the environment though. I'm tired of playing in Kerosene, 25 years is long enough. When I clean hard to clean stuff I'll still use some Kerosene, but I don't want to splash around in it anymore.
The best part is that draining the parts cleaner is as simple as letting the water run to the floor drain.
Water is the enemy.
Anything that seems to work with water is caustic and is very hard on aluminum.
Kerosene and time work very well
You are lucky to have that beautifully protected part.
My best projects over the years over riden and under washed balls of crud they always clean up so nice. Plus forensically you can tell what was worked on too.
