Title: Emgo Headlight...
Post by: AAAltered on November 23, 2019, 08:58:05 PM
I recognize that the quality may not be tops, but does anyone have experience with this headlight.

Economy sells them, with the following description:

" Complete Headlight and Bucket Assembly 7″ H4 Bulb. Universal fit, can be used on RD's,R5,DS7 and many other motorcycles. Available in Chrome or Gloss Black (with Chrome Ring)."

I am wondering about powering the H4 with the R5 (with VS ignition/Spec II coils, no blinkers).  Pretty sure I can wire it without much trouble but can I power it?

While tearing down, I found the inside of my bucket looking like this.  The outside looks fine but for 50 bucks I might consider that Emgo if it works...

It works just fine. I have one.

You should use a 35/35 bulb with the stock charging system. I swapped the halogen for LED. Brighter with less draw.

I am using one on my 75 RD. I bead blasted the chrome off of it and painted it. It works well with a 35 watt bulb. Organicjedi please provide a link to the LED bulb if available and describe the conversion process as I would like to try an LED.

Here's the one I got. Plug and play.

Much brighter and whiter that even the halogen. The hi beam pattern on the 35/35 that I originally had wasn't right. It seemed to project straight down. So I tried this and am happy with it. The price is great too. I have about 500 miles with it and no issues.

Likewise here on both. No problems with either.

I have one also. Hardest part of the install was getting the old stiff stock wire bundle out of the stock bucket.

The Emgo has built-in mounting threads. If you aren't using the stock blinkers you will need to buy some bolts to mount the light and drill the mounting ears. I think they are M10. Use star washers under them or they will vibrate loose.

Emgo also has a pretty big hole in the back so it's easy to get the wiring back in. The stock headlamp plug works too.

yup. had on on the lc hybrid, but it got smashed on the last drop. good quality. however, the lense may rattle, so a dab of clear silicone may be nec around the ridge  .02 (that seems to be true with most aftermarket headlights.)

Thanks Organicjedi for the link. My good friend Frank B came over and after a failed attempt at getting my dump truck to start we took a few minutes to install the LED bulb. We figured out for mine we needed to take off the no longer used brake pressure switch housing to get enough length to be able to feed the wires in.the bottom hole. I had cut an additional hole in mine on the original install to mimic the stock bucket. The fan housing on the bulb comes very close to the back of the bucket.

It is odd to hear the little fan run when you turn on the light.
Quite a reduction of wires in the bucket.

Thanks again for the link and Frank B as always for the help. It works like a champ.

I tried to install the other bulb in my RZ. It won't fit. The fan housing strikes the bucket so I consulted the Blingmaster M in SC and ordered a different LED without a fan. It is scheduled to arrive the day after Christmas.

I bought those LED and it was tough to fit, but when I got one with a smaller fan it worked perfectly.
