Title: R5 won't shift into gear
Post by: Greaser Greg on November 26, 2019, 09:59:37 PM
Tried all the basic stuff. Is there anything that can happen to cause this when the cam stopper is removed, for instance if someone thought it was the drain plug and something slid over on the shift cam while stopper was out?
Right side engine cover is off, shift linkage and cam both move, but won't  engage gears.

Bent shift shaft indicates traumatic forces resulting in loss of function due to deformation of critical mechanism.
Thanks to Jspooner for the shaft and some luck scoring the other two parts for $.99 +shipping!

I'm thinking this thing got scored when the metal from the clutch screws grinding on the cover settled. It doesn't slide when under even the slightest side load. Trans works fine without it, not fine with.
Anybody have one, or suggestion to repair? The outer threaded section was all f'ed up on the inside and at the opening, so I filed and sanded it. Moves easier but now it's kinda sloppy.

What is that?
The one Mark posted is correct.

Never seen one like that...I don't think it's for R5/RD!

I have spares if you need one free + ship (oh... I think you just bought it)

It will need a proper thickness fiber gasket washer too!

That's the piece that came on the motor; same as on the other bike I have. What's the proper thickness for the washer?
Guess I shoulda made a lower offer! Haha :vroom: Whatevs, totally worth it! I bought the other one listed on eBay also, just in cases. "A fool and his money are soon part-ing."
That style does look like a much better design. I'll swap out Rusty's when I do a trans oil change.

the old r5 ones ARE like that, they changed the design (for a good reason). the rd ones are very robust.

Dry run for shift adjustment with new parts. It works! :metal:
