I'm looking at a used set of S&W rear shocks for a good price. Anyone know anything about them? From what I read online S&W became Progressive Suspension. I'll be doing street riding. I'm not looking for the best shocks available, just something that's an upgrade over my clapped out stockers for the RD400 I'm rebuilding. Also, from what I understand, these older shocks aren't rebuildable. Is that accurate? Thanks!
i had a set on my s2, i liked them but i think you are right, not rebuildable.
Okay, thanks Mark! I'll probably pull the trigger. Trying to go in stages. I hope they're not totally trashed. They look nice and the seller says they aren't leaking. Down the road I'll more than likely buy new ones when I can afford it.

I found this old ad. I had to share, it's just too good not to.
That's priceless ad copy! I hate it when my rear wheel wants to do it's own
thing...

That would make a great poster for the garage.

AGREED!
They were really good shocks in the day...I'd even love to have them now over the crap being offered today for the price range without going into the high end model designed shocks we have today.
I won a lot of races on them on my production and modified bikes!

Hell yeah! I love those pictures Chuck!
note the second pic. that is what i (think) I am currently running on my r5. ( i repainted them). they work fantastic.
..there was debate whether they were konis or whatnot, but im pretty sure they were the same as chuck had in that pic. No markings identifying them though.

Can you get by as a Novice racer with Hagon shocks?
I'm pretty sure those are S&W shocks.
IKON shocks are more pricey but they work great. I like them better than Hagon.

Fine for a street bike, but
NOT for a roadracer. Get the IKON shocks! Way better for me.
Chuck
I have a new set of Hagons but have other RD's that could use them. Ikon is the way to go for racing? Without going to huge $ shocks. Go through Ikon U.S site? About 420$ plus the ride.
I've had these before on my F-500 RD400 and were really good too...
Just call them...great US company that supported vintage racing for many, many years.
Don't know pricing anymore, been about 10 years since I worked with Gil. (RIP)

How about a pair of these... I asked santa for a pair. We'll see. ;D
Thanks Chuck. Talked to guy (Nil) at Ikon and he was very helpful and offered options on shocks in reference to weight of bike, my weight and uses. All at initial price!
