Hello Guys,
I'm new to this forum and I am stumped on my problem and it is. When I'm adjusting the points I have a test light up ground to ground and the hot lead to the point thats getting ready to fire. So the light comes on when the points open and the light goes out when they close. My issue is the light is staying on the the whole time its like the points aren't closing all the way. I have changed points and condensers but the problem keeps happening. Any help would be a life saver. Great web site by the way I just found it and have picked up some great info.
The way I did it after having that same problem was to NOT set the gap at tdc like the manual says. Set the gap somewhere else on the cam rotation. I used the audible continuity setting on my multimeter, and when the beeping stops, the points have opened. The light should go out when points open.
Did you use a dial gauge to set timing?
you need to unmount the condensers. the circuit is completing through them keepin the testlight on. just unscrew them fromt he alternator housing and insulate them so they dont ground.

ditch the points and get yourself an electronic ignition kit. Seriously, I've spent a hard chunk of time just timing bikes.
Well I tried the condenser thing and no luck. The fucking light still stays on. I changed condenser and points with the plate and I still get the same results. One thing though it seems to be doing it on the left side only the right side is working fine. I think it might be the actual point itself, because when I start to loosen the mounting screw the light goes out. Once again like the points aren't closing all the way. Go figure. Or maybe I have to bend the point plate a little to get it to close right. I don't know
Oh and yes I'd love to install an electronic unit but money is tight right now. Unless there's any body out there that has a cheap one. Haha
make sure you have it wired correctly at the points. its easy to get the wire on the wrong side of the insulator. also, id time it with a timing light but thats just me.
Check the connections at the points to make sure the terminals aren't bent up and touching the other arm of contact breaker mechanism. That will cause the constant connection. Ask me how I know.
