Title: Discovered exhaust insert mismatch :(
Post by: rd400canuck on March 01, 2020, 05:23:04 PM
I pulled out the other exhaust baffle today to burn the carbon off it and discovered it isnt the same as the other side.

Which one is the correct one for 76 RD400c? That one with the shorting thin section doesnt have any perforations in it like the other... its just light passing through the other one onto it.

And, where do I get the correct one from?

Thanks again,

John

The pic looks kinda weird, like its distorted.
The longer perforated one is correct.

Stock RD400 baffles have 3 tracks, 1 track is 2 folds, 2nd track is 3 folds and the 3rd track is 5 folds.
A good mod is the drill 1/4 holes in the 2 fold track and also the 5 fold track leaving the 3 fold track untouched.

Has anyone tried the ones from Yambits? I seem to remember years ago someone saying the cut out paths dont line up properly with the internal baffles effective restricting exhaust flow almost completely.

I used the Yambits RD400 baffles about 5 years ago. Didn't see a baffle alignment problem.
Good price but they failed at the welds in a short time.  No prob if you can re-tackweld yourself.
Bought a pair of well-used RD400 originals instead.

I read on aircooled site that the oem baffles are still available.

I guess I'll call the  yammy shop tomorrow and see what they say.

I'll keep my eye on fleabay as well.
