Ive been trying to strip paint off a plastic ignition side cover. The paint stripper I have chews right through plastic, so I used brake fluid. It looks like rattle can paint, but its taken almost 5 days to get stripped.
Spill a tiny drop on your paint by accident and it eats right through, but try use it as a stripper and it doesn't work as good. Go figure
Any recommendations for something a bit faster?
I haven't actually done it myself, but I've seen it done... A buddy of mine used to use Easy Off oven cleaner to strip paint from plastic scale model cars.
The paint would bubble up, and he'd hit it with a toothbrush and warm water. No damage to the plastic model at all.
I noticed that a 50:50 mix of Purple Power cleaner and water in a ultra sonic cleaner does take paint off.
Brake fluid eventually took it off, but only after 5 days soaking and scrubbing.
Brake fluid can eventually eat through ABS plastic. A few GoldWing have had holes in their fairings from it. Make sure you wash if off real well with soapy water.
lacquer thinner. soak a shop rag in it, lay flat on top of cover let sit, outside for about 20 mins, keep damp. will wipe right off. wont hurt plastic. acetone, yes. eats it. lacquer thinner, safe. home depot lowes carries it.

Really? Read the contents of lacquer thinner. All that I've seen were 100% acetone.
thats ' voc compliant' lacquer thinner or some bs they started making a few yrs ago. Actual lacquer thinner does not have acetone in it. i use Jasco, blue/white cans. so yes, check the labels.
