Post by: RDFL on September 03, 2020, 03:04:56 PM
I just got a email supposedly from Sakis Vasilopoulos as many of you know makes fairings and seats. --- "Hello

How are you? i need a favor from you

I need to get a GameStop Gift Card for my Nephew, Its his birthday today and i totally forgot. I can't do this now because I'm currently out of town with no means of getting this done. Can you help grab one from any store around you . I'll pay back as soon as i am back.

Kindly let me know if you can handle this.

Sakis "  Maybe someone got into his email and is scamming or he just sent to wrong address. Anybody else get this?

Apparently is a known scam, it is from his address so they obviously did get into his account somehow, is a yahoo address might explain it. -- https://www.freep.com/story/money/personal-finance/susan-tompor/2019/06/20/can-you-do-me-favor-scam-asks-gift-cards/1485645001/

these scams.

if you can email, you could order it on line  :dawg:

i get the ones at work about 'your email is shut down' . via email.

if its shut down how the fuck did you email me?  the 2 office ladies ask me about them every time. Mind you, i manage the server and emails and everything. the only 2 people that get contacted are me, and the owner of the company.  yes at least once a month 'is this legit?'

I bet, if you try to reply, the adress int he bar is different. I wouldn't actually reply, but read the actual address in the composition window.  :twocents:

A girl at my previous job fell for one of those scams and was taken for over 20k. She thought she had won the lottery so she told everybody about it.

If you closely examine the email header you may see that it's an address spoof.

I've had emails that presented to be from my father's address asking me to wire $1m to an account in Dubai because he is in trouble.

...While he was sitting in the office next to mine.

We do have an office in Dubai. It has a desk, a chair, a phone, and an address. All the things required by Dubai to have a company there.

Anytime you get an email from someone you know asking for anything that has to do with alternative forms of payment it's a scam. 99.999%.

We use code words now. Trust but verify. Game Stop card is pretty low on the scam scale. Jr. scammer perhaps?

I sent Sakis a message via Facebook when I received that email letting know his email may have been hacked.  He's aware.
