Title: RD paint codes?
Post by: Striker1423 on September 08, 2020, 08:45:06 PM
So the chaps over at aircooled RD club have a handy list of paint codes for the UK and EU bikes. But, I couldn't locate the code for the US spec bikes.

Anyone have a list?

I'm I'm asking cause I just picked up another tank in good shape and want to have a few cans of legit paint mixed up.

Are you wanting to match a certain paint color or just looking for the Yamaha color code? The reason I ask is that the vintage Yamaha codes usually are meaningless to to a modern paint supplier or painter, they don't correlate to anything.

US RD400 colors are:
RD400C  Chappy Red  00E1 CPR
              Geneva Green  00K6 GGE
RD400D  Chappy Red  00E1 CPR
              French Blue  00G3 FBR
RD400E  Crystal Silver  0020 CSL
RD400F  New Pearl White  00Y9 NPW

My 1976 RD400C is being repainted and a Mazda (car) color is pretty close - A4A True Red.

In the photo with the two tanks, A4A is above and the original tank is below.

Well I have the 75 RD250B.  The tank is white. I mean I know i can get it closebut was just curious. I suppose I can just look around. The big thing is I'm thinking of doing the 2k clear in a can.

My list so far is 3 to 4 coats of white. Let cure. Apply  new decals. Clear over the decals 4 coats or so and polish to a shine.

VMR carries the Geneva Green, but they are a bit pricey @ ~$154 US per pint. The Spraymax 2K clear has worked well for me.

1975 RD250B  Clean White  0046 PW (Also called Pearl White)

Yamaha OEM Paint Sequence:
  Basecoat: White Pearl B/C  PNT-65000-01-46
  Second Coat: N/A
  Final Coat: Clear  PNT-65000-04-00

I also have a 250B and it doesn't really look like a pearl paint, but that's what the vintage Yamaha paint documentation states. Of course mine is 45-year-old oxidized paint so who knows.
