Here's a nice swingarm for somebody. Just a side note, I ordered one from Trac Dynamics 5 months ago and still fuckin waiting!

Looks like the ones Bill MacIntyre makes (stuckinthe70s on the old forum.) I have one of his and love it. :olaf:
I did share our new site with Bill and am hoping he's still making these!
Will this fit '79 RD400F?
Asking for a friend.
I don't see why not. The swing arm pivot is the same all years and the axle should fit through the slots. The shocks should mount no problem.
I had to do some drilling on it to get my brake stay on. But I think it would be pretty much plug n play.

UHmmmm
Sort of.
The off set on the Daytona wheels is different on the brake side. If you use the Daytona brakes you have to fabricate a caliper bracket stay on the top of the swingarm.
If you use the 1A1 brakes the caliper doesn't line up.
or just get one for an xs400.. same arm as a daytona :twocents:

Just a word of caution, I had got a dud arm from him. The bushing bores were not bored straight so after the bushings were installed the pivot bolt would not line up to the other side. This was not an installation error or a honing issue.
I finally got a refund but it was quite the process especially since communication can drop off with his health issues.
My bad. I would have thought the caliper bracket would still fit between the rotor and swingarm. :(

After a closer look at that bushing, it appears this might be the case with this arm as well!
Does anyone know how to contact bill about getting a rd400 swingarm made. Is he on here? Turns out oily pipes stopped selling their swingarm.

I talked to Bill a few months ago and he said he's done making them. He no longer has the space or tools to do it. Maybe that's changed, but I doubt it. Let me know if you want his number anyway.
I have his contact Info now but don't think I will be bothering him about it. I did some looking around and found a guy that's been building dg replica swingarm for over 30 years for dirtbikes. Karl landrus at klpracing.com. He said he could build me one for my rd400 for $800. Does that sound like a fair price?
$800 seems fair for a one-off part. Maybe he would give a little discount if you could find a few members here who want one.
I checked out his site. Pretty cool MX action shots of him back in the day racing with the big boys. '82 Anaheim Supercross :whoop:

This is a good idea. I wonder how many it would take and what the price would be. I would be in for 600.
FWIW, I am pretty sure the ones Bill was selling were right around $600.
As far as aluminum arms go, if you aren't looking exactly for the vintage look those arms have the Moto Lana is a much better value and have a nicer look to them(IMO).
exaclty. why the hell would anyone pay 800 bucks for a DG replica when the motolana arm is much better. just needs some tweaking
Might be a opportunity for someone to buy, or have people buy and shipped to them to tweak Motolanta for fee, for those who can't or don't want to themselves. I do wonder why Motolanta seems to not like RD's.
I paid $525 for my brand new one from Bill.
Metmachex Engineering in England makes on as well.
No idea what it would cost though
Can someone clarify exactly how a motolana swingarm has to be modified to run on a rd400.
Not my measurements for the swing arms
Ds7,r5,rd250,rd350, rd400
total length 18' + 1 1/2 inch for rd400
7 13/16 axel spread
7 9/16 pivot
Pivot bolt 16mm (I think)
SR500
Swing arm pivot center to axle center in mid adjustment position - 18.25"
Pivot Width - 8.28
Axle Inside Width - 7.25"
Pivot bolt 16mm (I think)
Looks like toe pivot will need to be cut down a bit to fit the Rd frame, its a bit shorter than the 400 one and a but wider at the axle
nathan was telling me when he did it it basically required a spacer at the RH side and not that much else. of course ou have to sort the rear brake but aside from that it wasnt much at all. I wish i had the old correspondance, he did lay it out
He's on Instagram at @kablazzie
I'll ask him to pop in here to discuss
yeah, when he explains it this time it will go in the tech library. :twocents:
While not exactly all the info needed, if you search his old posts there is some info about it on this board.
