Hi everyone! Season's greetings. It won't be long now til the days start getting longer and that means more time to ride and wrench after work!
What are your favorite ways to hold your gears still while you tighten a primary gear nut? A piece of wood, a rag, hook up the chain and tie the wheel to swingarm, Motion Pro Gear Jammer tool? The tool looks cool and won't leave splinters or thread behind, but is it worth the $ for the ease of use once or twice a year? Probably. What else have you done to accomplish the same result?
Copper penny.
i use a rag most of the time. just fold it over a few times. :twocents:

Copper penny.
Yep. Penny gets pretty mangled. A quadrupled rag was just chewed up and spit out.
I use the Motion Pro Clutch holding tool, it has gear jammers on the back and is more versatile than the specialty gear jammer they sell.

Aw, shucks. I bought the EBC clutch holder specific for R5 and similar.
I'm in the rag department too, and I also have the motion pro tool. Never really knew what the back side of the tool was for. Learned two new thing's today.
I've always had good luck with penny!................................D

I'm gonna try this one. Cheap, easy, illegal :dawg:
Thanks everyone! :cheerleader:
The penny has worked for me many times also. :twocents:
Let's see your pics of the pennies after they have done their job :pop:
The newer penny with aluminum core will cut some what. I will snap a pic next time
If you really want to be fancy, or just have a tool buying addiction this is the way to go
That's the tool I'm wondering about! Is that picture of it in use on an R5? Doesn't look quite right.
I tried an empty shell casing once; it didn't even start to work.

Wonder if that tool will work on helical gears. I am sceptical. On straight cut gears, like Ducati primaries, it would work fine.
helical? no.
Penny

Oh my! You don't want to leave any pieces behind. Maybe move up to a half dollar?

Copper penny.
Older solid copper penny does not cut like the aluminum core newer pennies. Softer copper is kinder to the primary gears. :vroom:
