Title: speed and sport engine decals, experience?
Post by: m in sc on December 18, 2020, 02:29:30 PM
last time i bought any of these was a LONG time ago from reproduction decals, i think.

anyway, the 72 R5 needs one for the RH side, but not the left as its original and in surprisingly good shape.  how close to matching are these -in real life- to the originals?  I know the pics look good. Just curious.

Give me some time, I'll find where I bought mine from. It took two tries to find some nice aluminum ones.

I have personal experience with them.  They look OK.  The OEM have a 'spun' look so they have a circular pattern in the aluminum.  The decals have the striations all running vertically.  So....side by side they look very different.  But on opposite sides, or used as a pair, they can look decent.

that's what i thought. that's ok, i'll track down another points cover in my pile and repaint eventually then to get them to match. thanks!

Spot on, I got mine from HVC and they appear to be the same.  They are good quality and look pretty good but you can definitely tell they are not original.

Side note, it does appear the older HVC ones had the lines vertically (image on the website still shows this) but the ones I bought last year look like the speed and sport ones with horizontal lines
