I don't get it. There must be a lot of desperate people out there.
8200 bucks with 6 days to go, reserve not met, and 16 bidders. All for a bike with a frozen engine that the seller didn't even bother to unchain from the pole and roll out in to the daylight, or even clean the dust off of it.

Questions:

1.  Why is the bike so dirty?
Answer: I wanted to explicitly show the condition of the bike and demonstrate how long its been sitting undisturbed. Additionally I have spoken to several vintage motorcycle enthusiasts who recommend only experienced restorers clean/restore vintage motorcycles as the original paint/patina and surfaces can be damaged if done so improperly. So I will leave it up to the new owner.

There is his excuse for being lazy

Up to 10 grand and I am sure it will go quite a bit higher.

FFS why?

When I was first looking at a motorcycle to buy (2015 before the G3), a pair of H1's that combined would have made a good bike (after motor work) with plenty of spare parts was on Craigslist for $3500. Not 8k, 10k, 12k lol. And those bikes were just as rough as these ones.

I guess I should have bought them, stuck them in the yard under a tarp, and waited for 2021 cause people are... special? Is that a good word to describe it?

Unless they were '69 H1s it was probably a good pass.

The 500's (and smaller) just have nowhere near the cache of the 750's.

$10k sounds like a lot, but that H2 looks 99% complete.  Sourcing all the weird esoteric bits is what really drives the price up.  Clean un-rashed H2 pipes are hugely valuable as well.   Full engine rebuild, new paint and hours and hours of vapor blasting, cleaning,  polishing, painting, etc, and that will be a crazy valuable bike again.

... although $10k buy in, $2.5k engine rebuild and $1.5k paint kinda takes the rosey tint out of my glasses.

Up to 11k with 3 more days to go.  I'm going to take a guess in this one and say 14.5k is what it will go for.

While it won't be perfect, I think that bike will clean up pretty good and end up being a very nice low mileage non-restored bike.

I'm by no means saying it is worth that(at least to me).

Ended at $15,988.  A pretty good chunk of change.

16K not counting shipping. Seems like a lot  more $$ needs to be spent on it , Engine stuck, Etc.
I better stick with my RD350's

I watched that auction too. Great to see a thread started here about it because I really don't bother much with signing into Ebay or even here although I lurk LOL, :nana: :nana: :nana:

Man that bike looked like birds were using it as a toilet. I just can't believe it sold for that kinda money. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if someone ends up with over 20k into that bike assuming they go thru it all professionally. I guess it could clean up really nice for the survivor look but it will still be a considerable penny more than that auction closing price to get her running and riding and looking correct.

I want to get it but I guess I kinda don't it just seems like these bikes as a preservable species are always out there albeit few and far between not to mention the cottage industry that supports them.

Well I've been lusting for one and always had the cash for it for the last 15 years of my life but for some strange reason I just hesitate to pull the trigger. The best deal I passed on one was roughly ten years ago. Saw it on Craigslist for nearly a month. This thing looked stupid silly sweet, much nicer than that bucket of bird turd and it was only 15 miles from where I lived. I think the asking price was maybe 12k and I believe it even dropped to about 10k??? What was I thinking????.....Well although it was the same year I was born I just wasn't crazy about the color green  :umm:  :umm:
