Title: RD400 engine value
Post by: rodneya on January 28, 2021, 12:22:20 PM

Looking for input on the value of an RD400 1A1 motor. Crank needs rebuild, cylinders are stock bore, but will need re-bored as it was siezed and then sat for long time and water got in..
Missing complete trans and clutch, small round generator cover and oil pimp cover

So you've essentially got cylinders, heads, cases, crank core, and side covers.  Value I'd say is driven by the condition of the bores mostly, how deep any damage is.

Bores aren't too bad. The left has aluminum smear from a seize and there is rust marks where the pistons were, but no gouges. 2nd oversize will have it cleaned up.

I cant find anything for sale at the moment other than heads and engine covers to compare to though.

The left side engine cover is hard to find and worth at least $100, if not cracked.

I would think at least $500 if not more. Complete top ends are not easy to find plus you have the rest of the stuff you listed.

That was kinda the plan, but Ive been trying to finish off other projects first before cleaning up and blasting the parts so they look presentable.
Just got somebody looking to buy, but seems he wants it for next to nothing.
