I am seriously considering to order a pair of Spec 2 Classics for my 350A, as I think they look better than any other currently available alternatives, as well as having a good reputation for power. (F1 or JL pipes look a bit out of place on a mostly stock RD IMHO)
However, I think they would look even better with a slightly larger diameter silencer section. On pictures, it looks like around 2"outside diameter. I would like something around 2 1/2" or 65 mm.
In the 80s, Italian made Figaroli chambers for the 350LC were just like that. Looked nice, and had a wonderful crackly sound as well.
So my question is just what the silencer OD is on the Spec 2 Classics, and also your opinion on modifying them with a larger silencer tube and end caps, before chroming or painting.
will be difficult on the classics, and you will get lower shock bolt interference id imagine, ive owned a few sets over the years.
great pipes. Id go for a set of F1s. same pipes for the most part but with removable cans which can be modified more reguarily.
I have the exact same feeling regarding the O.D. I wanted to buy DG's just because I think they look better and more "muscular" but don't want to give up performance, thus why I just made a thread asking why DGs are so bad. Likely will end up buying the Spec II classics even if the ends look like a peashooter, I don't like the aluminum silencer style on this bike.
get the cans painted black. I think the od od 2.5" . 'peashooter" = tuned stinger. :dawg:
Related but unrelated question: do Spec II's tend to have a more baritone growl (relatively speaking for 2 strokes) as compared to the "hornets in a coffee can" buzz of other pipes (for ex, JL)? My older Spec IIs don't have that high of a pitch and wondering if that's just a characteristic of all Spec IIs.
old specIIs have a louvered baffle design vs a perforated one. thats why. Dencos for triples are the same way
