I cant seem to get the RD400 back running again.
It was running fine for a couple weeks.
Took it up to about 6500 rpm and noticed hesitation.
I turned the air screw out 1/4 turn, started it, and the plugs fouled.
Cleaned the plugs, turned air screw back.
Started right up.
Revved up to abut 5000, and it shut off.
reset air screw to 1.25, idle screw to 2.
Adjusted throttle cable to just loose
Bike will start & run for about 10 sec, then shut off.
Can re-kick, but does the same thing, starts then dies.
It does sound good when it is running for that short time
Was running ethanol free from wawa with 32 : 1 premix.
Switched to 91 ethanol free with 36 to 1.
Still no luck.
Stock bike, stock carbs.
Dont really want to take carbs out.
Where is Chuck - Clearwater is 20 min from me.

Sorry.
RD400F = Canadian with CDI.

Are the carbs on those bikes a pain to get out? Do they have a bowl drain plug? Might just be some grit in the bowls from tank or fuel lines, getting sucked up which then kills motor, crud sinks, repeat. Maybe you already know all that. :twocents:
I will try the bowl thing without taking the carbs out.
Thanks
Otherwise out they will come
Should be band clamps each side & throttle cable.
Hope the boots can slide so I dont have to take the tank & airbox loose

sounds like it's fuel related - if you have fuel filters change them out and if not you may want to install some
When my 400 did this it was my vape system. It fell apart. It would start for about 5-10 seconds and no more.
