Title: Rd350 clutch problem
Post by: motoroy on April 01, 2019, 02:29:53 AM
Hello
I got a problem with my clutch, it very hard to press it and it slips when i accelerate,
I replaced the cable and pads, all original, but it still the same. I understood that clutch from other bikes could fit, and I want to know which one really fits. Does banshee clutch fits?

Is the worm screw positioned correctly? And does it have a bit of play? Play at the lever won't neccessarily fix it, if there is no play at the worm adjustment screw.
And what kind of gearbox oil are you using?

If your asking if the fiber plates fit? Yes.
You didn't state what year or if your talking about the early 6 or late 7 plate model?
Clutch adjuster has to be lubed and properly set.
Cable routing and clutch perch also plays a big role in how easy it pulls in.

The bike is 77 model
Im using 10w40 oil
The cable has a bit of play in the lever. I didn't adjust the clutch perch.
If there is no a bit of play in the lever the clutch slips more
Can i use bunshee clutch?

Are you sure it's a 1977 RD350? :umm:

What kind of 10/40 oil are you using? Is it motorcycle specific for wet clutches? Please provide more details

also make sure the pressure plate is cloked correctly, and that as stated, the clutch adjuster is set correctly. me personally, i set the arm where it sits about 15 degrees down at the start, and give 3/4 turn of freeplay at the screw. by this, turn screw in till it touches, then back out 3/4 a revolution, then set locknut.

10w-40w shouldn't be a problem, even though I only use 2 stroke transmission specific 75w or 80w. Not hypoid gear oil!
Yes, you can use the Banshee fiber plates.  I use a early yz250 clutch plates as the Banshee are smaller width. Have to use rd350 springs, banshee springs don't fit. (You can in rd400's)
I would reuse the stock steels if not blued or warped.

also make sure that the number of plates that goes back in is the same as you took out. and in the same order.

Correct, I saw that. But to my knowledge Yamaha did not make a RD350 in 1977 in any country.

I 'll bet it is year of registration. In Norway, we only had the 1973 RD350,and the1974 RD350A. But those 74 models were sold as new in both 75 and 76. My 2 RDs are both 74 A models, but were first registered (plated) in 75 and 76.

Did you check the status of your friction plate? They might need to be scuffed up in order for it to grip better. I had some issues with my clutch slipping and I just scuffed up the plates a bit and it no longer slips anymore.
