Title: Replacement ignition switch
Post by: Galensmitty on April 02, 2019, 10:21:03 AM
Good morning!
My ignition switch for my 74 rd350 is worn out and broken. Are there any recommendations for replacement ones? I see that HVC sells ones for the R5. Do they not fit the 73, 74 and 75 rd's?

I believe the DS7/R5 switch is different -- screw locations and wire connectors

Why not get an OEM one off Ebay? There are used ones or even NOS available. A part for a 73-75 RD250 or RD350, or 73-74 TX500, or 75 XS500B will fit.

Leonelli magnetic lanyard switches are reliable. They're simple, maintenance-free, and cheaper than mechanical key switches.

Pretty cool.

Could you just just wire a cheap ignition switch from flea bay?

I used a repro RZ/RD350 ignition switch on my DS7. It bolted right up, but as SoCal mentioned, the connector is different. I simply repinned the wires into the old connector.

If you're looking for just functional, that should work for you with little modification.
