I have been wanting to put an LED headlight in the RD.
My headlight has the fixed bulb.
I looked in the parts book & found other headlights that have replaceable bulbs.
So i found one in Ebay.
Bought a bulb off of Amazon.
Bulb does not fit correctly into holder.
It falls thru.

What Yamaha model did the headlight lens assembly come from? Is it the same size lens as the RD400?
Are there any depth problems in the bucket? Does the adjuster still work?

For as XS400.
Same 7" size, but it had the removable bulb.
I have not mounted it yet, but seems like it will fit in the same headlight rim, with same adjustment.
The 400F parts manual also shows other part numbers for the replaceable bulb headlight lenses.
So it could be considered a stock item, as to keeping the bikes authenticity

the only issue you may run into it it clearing the back of the headlight bucket. But ive converted almost all my bikes. on the r5, i actually soldered a male headlight plug with wires off the back of the bulb on to allow the factory plug to be set to the side. But, i think 400 buckets are deeper so you will probably be ok.

How is the light pattern? A two-sided LED setup like your bulb is probably the closest to the original halogen filament layout. I put a very cheap three-sided LED in my GL1000 reflector, and was surprised that although the high beam lights the trees, low beam gives a good flat beam with a sharp cut-off.
Have not had a chance to examine in the dark.
