Title: Switching an R5 engine/trans out for an RD350 engine
Post by: Still biking on August 14, 2021, 06:20:00 PM
I have an R5 with some problems and have a spare RD350 engine.  Are there any complications in switching engine/trans out for an RD 350?  Has anybody ever done that?

The RD cases are better. Can you throw the R5 top end/crank at the RD?

From my research and with help from many here.. I have learned that the R5 and RD cases are essentially the same with minor differences. Most parts can be interchanged. Both motors will fit either frame.
There are differences in the clutch, oil pump and of course the R5 is port intake while the RD is reed.
There is a ton of info on swap stuff and what fits what right here on this group. Just grab a beer and spend a day looking through all the the posts and pages..

if you are planning on swapping the whole motor out , or just the lower half, direct swap.  no issues.

Yes I was planning on switching the whole motor out including transmission.  I assume the exhaust ports will work as well.  thanks for input!
