Has this been discussed before? I searched but found nothing.
I need to remove this before I send the frame off for blasting and coating.
Oh BTW. No key.
the little cover just has a pin holding it in that can be prised out carefully.
With out a key you will have to drill out the lock part.
They are not easy to get out even wit a key after being in there for soo long
Yes, even with a key mine would not come out. Decided to just leave it be.
Does anyone make a replacement?
nope. tape over it before sending to powder coater. will survive ok

You should be able to find a new old stock one on ebay.

Mine melted remember? If I remembered the post I'd link to it.
I just closed the cover and pretended I didn't see it. Lol don't know how I'd get it out now.
jeez how hot did they bake it? lol.
Hot apparently lol.
Why don't you get a key for that number lock and try it?

I've had good luck with NOS Yamaha pre-cut keys off Ebay. As posted above just order by stamped lock number
If you end up drilling it out and need a replacement assembly & key, those are avialable too in either OEM NOS or repro. Check Ebay.
my point is powder coating ovens shouldn't really ever get over 600 degrees (usually less). that's way, WAY under what brass, aluminum and zinc go liquid at. Striker, did they powedrcoat yours with the oven in self cleaning mode? lol. :boom:

No idea, its just all stuffed full of crap. The little door wouldn't open, so I razor knifed around it and it still wouldn't budge. Finally got it open and well. Here:

Maybe they ruined that lock when they were cleaning it, putting it in a caustic tank or something like that?????
as a side note, worked on matts bike today, rd400. the rubber drive bushings on the rear wheel survived the powedercoater and oven.. so the tank chemicals make sense as a reason the lock melted. :twocents:
Ohhh maybe. Would also make sense as to why it was rusting a bit too.
