Title: HPI ignition with Ricks reg/rec
Post by: gargantua350 on January 30, 2022, 09:37:12 AM
Hello,

Has anyone ran the HPI mini rotor ignition with the ricks reg/rectifier?  The rectifier has a 3 phase input for the ac volts.  Would it be easier to run without a battery instead of trying to adapt?

If I were to run without a battery, what bulbs or LEDs have you guys ran successfully?  I just run headlight, tailight and neutral indicator.

thx dudes

I used a simple atv rect/reg. You can go either route, it's totally your preference. I just enjoy being able to have a dead battery and still be able to start my bike  with a pull of a wire terminal.

You would need a relay to run with the battery for the ignition switch. Follow the vape diagram. cant do it with a 3 wire. best case is a 2 wire, which is what im going to do on the G3.  you need to float the ground then run each ac leg to a 2 wire reg/rectifier. I bought a cheap 4 wire (below) for use with this.

for the lightweight, i also floated the ground but run everything AC, regulate it with a trailtech VR.

To be clear for we the electrically challenged, "float the ground" I think means it's not grounded?

i'll detail it when i do mine.... i think chuck covered it as well in his hpi install thread.  it is grounded, you remove one and it becomes an ac lead. like said, pictures make it way clearer.

Yeah I wrote it up in my post.

Just make sure you mask off the wire with some electric tape or shrink wrap since it is has exposed solder. Good luck
