:rant-1: Is FB marketplace this difficult for everyone? I've been thinking about joining for the purpose of selling to a large audience without making eBay richer, and when Milan asked for help picking up a Suzuki here in Washington it seemed like the time. The seller ghosted our man Milan, apparently because he's too far away, so I allowed myself to be assimilated. Trouble is, I can't access marketplace! I'm given the opportunity to join endless groups, and I can, through a rather clunky process, look up someone such as Ed Toomey Designs and see their, uh, thread? Kinda cool.
Trying to access marketplace, and using the help center, dumps me into a loop of non-specific tips and links that all lead to "Marketplace isn't available to you now", so I Googled it. Found sites that say marketplace isn't accessible until 11-12 MONTHS after joining. That can't be right! (?)
What am I doing wrong...besides joining FB? :'(
New accounts should have access to marketplace unless you are using a really old apple device to access facebook. Check your age and country are correct as it is only available to over 18 and specific countries. Try logging in on a laptop and see if it is there
I find marketplace is more like craigslist with local deals only. If you want to reach a bigger audience then bike specific groups are the way to go. Lots and lots of scammers out there though
So, the hand-crank on my iPad could be the problem. I didn't think to try a different device :bang:
I seem to be able to access everything on FB Marketplace from all over the world with my laptop. I never really tried to access it until after I was a member for a while. BUT, I don't trust anything. It seems FB monitors everything you are searching and then here comes all ads from scammers trying to sell you things. Maybe there is a way to stop that with adjusting preferences? Selling things may be ok, but a lot of people want to buy that are all talk and no action. I have sold things locally on there. As for groups, wow, you will find out there are disrespectful, mean, know it all's out there. "I'm right, you're wrong". The replies that poor people get to their honest questions is just nuts. Much of the mechanical advice is just way off and wrong. The hunting and fishing groups I'm in attack people with insults.
I work next to a fellow who has told me much the same; it seems like a toxic social environment. He has stopped using all but the messaging function and marketplace, largely because he's one of the mean people you mention and has been temporarily banned several times.
Facebook is such a shithole. The toxicity is off the charts.
Marketplace can be pretty handy though, it definitely has replaced Craigslist in many ways.
well heres my take.
I dont use marketplace that much, if at all , its fun to look though and I have bought a few things off of it.
as far as FB is concerned, its like any other tech, you can control how it works for you. blocking, ignoring, joining groups, limiting what you allow of your data to be uploaded etc...etc. MY 82 year old father navigates it just fine, and avoids politics and stuff like that for obvious reasons.. as should IMHO everyone else as anything on there, from anyone, is just OPINION.
The real benefit for me are the MC groups, the acrd club page is really good for the most part. and i use ot to keep track of events suck as the vintage dragraces, deals gap meet, road racing, the meltdown, dgr, and local bike nights.

There are absolutely no real good selling or buying portals.
Marketplace, Feebay or Craigslist all have problems.
I refuse to sell on Feebay any longer though I did for years.. too controlling though I still buy off of it..
Marketplace was pretty good for while but has become over run with scammers. You really have to do your due diligence same with Craigslist.
I have a LOT of parts I've collected over the years..
I believe they likely will be still in my barn when I die.
this is why we have a for sale section here. *safe place*

And I like selling stuff to good people.
I'd like to buy a box van (after a winning lottery ticket) and drive all my crap around the country to all your houses and we could just trade in person. And have sandwiches.
Come to Pittsburgh and enjoy one of these monstrosities (if you have been to a chain they are good but nearly as good as the original).

I think I'm in love
Wade, lets get a semi and I'll join ya>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> :vroom:
It's a good plan, but I need you to sell Shannon on the idea, as I only recently got to move back inside from the barn due to the Louisiana fiasco.
Update: it was the iPad. I can access FB on my phone and on the PC at home; I just perused RD350 for sale, and there are a lot of bikes and parts out there that need my help! Dennis, you need to stay the #@&k off of FB, it's not safe for you.
Wade, I'll buy you a Pastie (The food, not the nipple covering) and take you out on the lake for some Walleye.
holy crap, what's that sandwich above and what all's in it? Obviously not cardiologist approved
Dennis, looks as though our first stop is Striker's place, unless we're swinging south first to pick up Russ. We'll call it the Traveling Trash Show. Wait, that might imply the other kind of pasties...would that necessarily be a bad thing?
FB is just like the real world but squished under pressure.
The toxic environment is shocking, but if you stay out of *those* groups, it's not to bad. I'm in 2T, Beekeeping, Home Inspection, Rav4 Hybrid, Guitar, and Music groups that are fantastic, and really helpful when looking for a quick answer. Of course, you have to separate the wheat from the chaff, and theres A LOT of chaff if you're not careful.
I've had great luck buying and selling on FB Marketplace. Yup, there are scammers out there, but WAY FEWER than Craigslist and Ebay.

Seems like the Primanti Brothers of today is not the same as the Primanti Brothers of yesterday.
for what its worth I've found FB marketplace to be a great way to find good deals as a buyer however using it as a seller is a big pain in the ass. There are so many tire kickers and morons out there that have no life and have nothing better to do than waste your time. We call these people " Keyboard Warriors" this is their life, nothing but internet junkies asking you all kind of stupid questions about your bike for sale and do you have videos of it running etc....etc....with absolutely no intent of buying it.
It's a complete waste of time and energy - so if you decide to sell on there be prepared
I've sold five bikes in the past two decades. First was on ebay, and went smooth. Second was on Craigslist, and it wen smooth. Last three were listed on Marketplace and Craigslist, but Marketplace generated the actual buyers. Craigslist was all tire kickers. Both generated dolts that wanted to offer much less. All sold at advertised (fair) price. The last four included links to Youtube videos of the bike running. FB is something that lets you know which friends are drama queens, which ones crave attention, which ones dwell on politics too much. I have reduced my group membership to only local groups (and some of them need trimmed due to abusive members).
I've recently been made admin of our church group. Hope to find a responsible volunteer soon to hand it off to soon. Things can get busy on it.

The original stores, of which there are only two left (one of which is where I met my wife) are still really freaking solid. The chains are somehow franchised and while the sandwiches are still okay, they aren't quite as good. Everything is just cheaper at the chains, as to be expected I suppose. If I am in the mood I will stop at a chain, but generally I head to the OG in the strip district and get an egg and cheese and a Yuengling. Pretty epic meal.

I think that's probably a capicola and cheese, but I don't know, I just picked a random photo. Cap and cheese is legit though.
They do meat, cheese, fries, slaw, and tomato on their sandwiches. It's a vinegary slaw, not a mayo slaw, so it's basically mostly just tangy cabbage. It works very well.
Ok.
I am to blame for Wade's story.
He graciuosly was trying to hook up with a seller of a TS125 suzuki.
I was looking to get, but the seller wont let me pay him & then pickup.
All above is true

Not to hijack this thread.
But found a 75 Yamha DT 125 about an hour + from me.
Anyone have any experience with the Suk vs the Yam
M
Savor, I could totally drive the 4+ hours to Pittsburgh and eat food haha.
Wade, the pastie is a staple for Northern Michigan, but since I live under the bridge the Yoopers (from da UP) call us trolls.
In fact, just watch this movie and enjoy lol.

I had a mint TS125 back in '71 and I still have my IT175 that I bought new in '78. They were/are both excellent with about the same quality.
