You have a bike for sale.
Maybe a sought after one.
Is it better to offer all of the spare parts with the bike to get a better price?
Or try & sell them separately?
Say you have:
sets of OEM 1'st, 2'nd oversize pistons & rings
Lenses, headlights, OEM carbs, needles, jets, etc....

I'll be selling my 4U0 JDM '81 RD350 LC soon, and was planning on boxing up and including all the take-off parts during the sale:
- Perfect condition 4U0 specific pipes
- Early LC carbs
- Centerstand (very rare)
- Airbox and lid w/snorkel
- 4U0 specific brake calipers and master cylinder
- Uncut rear fender/mudguard (rare)
- more that I'm forgetting
In my mind, most of this stuff holds the most value remaining with this specific bike, and ideally returning to Japan with it.
Although some of the bits are quite valuable (pipes and centerstand), shipping is prohibitively expensive for many. I've had a very rare OEM TDR engine case guard up on FBM for almost a year, with lots of interest, but as all the buyers are in UK, Greece, Australia, Malaysia, etc ... the shipping is over $100 and almost as expensive as the piece.
I've tried selling the pipes separately and got exactly zero response.
Thanks for the reminder, tho. Ima put that case guard up on ebay and see if I can get any action over there. I'm basically selling every random thing I can find to finance paint on my LC in preparation for sale.
well, stock cosmetic hard to find niche oem stuff is a different story IMHO.
but pistons and lenses, easy to find consumables .. not so much.

Even for take-off parts and matching bits I would not list them with the bike because you may get buyers who grind you on price. Why throw all the extras in for nothing? Hold out on that stuff and then offer it for for a package deal. If they pass then sell it separately later to maximize your ROI. :twocents:

seems like your lowering the price, and throwing in the parts for free.
I have my USA Daytona up for sale.
HVC pipes, 1A1 carbs and pods.
I have original exhausts & airbox & carbs.
So have them as separate, tho not listed anywhere

I was thinking about selling the centerstand separately. It's easy to ship, I should be able to get $200-$300 for it, and that'll help towards my paint fund.
My strategy is to use extra parts to hit a price point in negotiation of the deal. If I sell a bike for $5K obo and someone comes at me with $4500 I will agree on that price, then say if you give me the full $5K I will throw in the boxes of parts.
Unless I have the same bike and can use the parts, that stuff is all going to the new owner. If I've decided to sell it there is no way I want that extra stuff lying around until I can "get rid of it"

I have random parts laying around from bikes I sold decades ago. Trying to sell some sweet rare Vespa parts rn, and I haven't owned a Vespa in 15 years. :bang: :bang:
I actually keep parts i may have if a friend of mine has that bike, even if i dont. to me, not worth the hassle of trying to sell it, id rather give it away. recently i came off with a stock ac350 airbox and lid i personally had no immediate use for, prob had it 7 years.
Spares are cool until they're in the way. For me atm, they're in the way haha.
