Title: Calling all vintage smoke rear sets
Post by: BCRD on July 31, 2022, 12:37:21 PM
I've had my vintage smoke rear sets for my rd400 for a couple seasons now and really like them. The only issue I have with them is the exhaust hanger bushings. They wear out super quick if you take the pipes off a couple times. What are you guys doing as a replacement for these. I've tried countless times to reach out to nick at vintage smoke with no reply. Someone on here mentioned it was possibly a Harley Davidson part. Went to the HD parts counter today and nobody there recognized them let alone seen clear parts on a Harley. I know I'm not the only one with this issue. How do I replace these bushings!

Any chance they are a off the shelf part that has been modified?  Google search for HD handle bar bushings show a similar part they just don't have the "key" cut out to interlock with each other.

I also don't have any scale on the part you have vs what I see for the handlebar ones so they may not even be close in size.

I went through this with Smoky Mountain HD. They don't know what they are. They did give me a HD fairing bushing that worked though. It was a direct replacement in one piece. They had to sort through their bushings and I don't have a part number unfortunately.

I only know that it is a fairing bushing for a Harley that I used.

if/when mine ever die, i'll just source a bushing from mcmaster or something.  :twocents:

The parts counter guy pulled out HD handle bar bushings and they were not close to the same size.

Did some more digging with your guys help and stumbled across these. They look correct.

I have these, which are HD grommet hardware. What are the dims?  Is the plastic part of the deal?  That's an odd choice, if so.

You can get them with urethane grommets, as well.  Same purpose as the Revzilla listing.  That is just one version of the same hardware.

Sorry to keep adding, but you can get the tophats in aluminum, as well.  Mine are chrome steel, and I've also seen them in stainless.

if i remember correctly, the 'stock' bushings were flat on the sides, making them d shaped, to fit into the slots on his rearsets as well.
