Ignition gave out on my RZ, when I was getting ready to load it up into my van after a show a few month's ago.
Took some time to feel like looking into the problem, and came to find out the ignition box gave up.
So.... Instead of wasting money on another used 29K-50, I decided to move to the next generation and get a programmable Zeel....and a new coil just for the Hell of it.
Pulled the old stuff out and made a mount for the new bits....just need to get wiring 100% figured before I start making end plugs to hook back up to stock harness.
I set my zeel u[p for 35 deg static timing, and when I converted that to mm I realized that most of my dial gauges dont go that far.
On the other 3 Zeel ignitions I have put into bikes, I have never set the static timing....
Always just figured it was programmed in and just left them as is.
But now that I think about it, I'm guessing it would be something like setting your TPS, as the program is set to 2 points....and each bike could be a few points off one way or another.
The quick shifter I have set up on my VJ21, I just used the settings already programmed and it works perfect.....Something to look into a little more I guess.
Apparently the RZ I bought a few years ago had the same ignition box failure and the previous owner had a Zeel installed. The wad of wires is something. It works great but some time I have to tidy up the wires.
The '84 L model is known to have an issue with failing CDI boxes due to solder point failures.
i had to do mine on my rz as well way back. the static was spot on, i did check it. also, i bought the correct connectors from vintage connections and made it a direct plug in. never had an issue out of it.

Static timing is where the rotor is physically clocked and is 34 degrees for all RZ's as they are keyed rotors. This needs to be right in the Zeel as it's the baseline for the algorithm to apply the curve, if static timing is wrong, your curves won't be accurate and could have catastrophic consequences.

I'm not finding the connectors anywhere, for the ignition box itself....
i should have been clearer. i replaced both sides.
never going back to stock it didnt matter to me to match the oem ones.
I always keep all the plugs as factory on my rebuilds, that way it can go back to stock, if that is what the next owner wants....and considering the prices of two strokes are only going up.....everyone approves with uncut/untampered harnesses.
Plus on most of these bikes, I can put the stock stuff back on to check various power valve, TPS, and air solenoid settings.
I have 4 of the 6 correct new connectors, and I now have the correct bullet pins, where I can use the 2 from original ignition box to get all 6 plugs looking original and clean.
Just need to triple check the wiring before I commit.
yeah, i get it but as far as i know, no one is reproducing the stock units with stock plugs. .02

Ed Toomey is selling a programmable cdi that is advertised as plug and play. Pretty sure it is a Dynatec unit.
Screenshot from his facebook page
well look at that, :gentleman:
digikey or mouser must have them available. that's awesome.
Still need to dial in powervalve position, hook up quick shifter and switch for ignition curves (race gas/pump gas)
I think Ed is supplying both sides of the connector and is an ignitech unit. These are the OEM connectors for the 84 RZ350 (and different from 1985), I don't see them plugging in to the connectors shown in Ed's picture (they look like standard spade connector blocks. The OEM ones use those big fat pins, not a lot avaiable for them.
I didn't realize the connectors were so important, I'll make some up for the Zeels for each year. My thinking was with just the pigtails, guys could wire it up anyway they want, connectors, bullets, solder, etc.
As for the static timing (Zeel calls it "static angle"), always check it, it should be 34 degrees for all RZ's.

I can't see the image...?
Make up some ends, as in 3D print?.... or do you have a supply source?

Could you not use the plastic connectors from the old CDI with new crimp on spade bits?
I found the spade connectors, and have those mounted on the Zeel.
Also have the 4 prong connector with the bullet terminals mounted on the Zeel.
I could not find the 2 and 3 prong connectors with bullet terminals.
Can't find the original style bullet terminals to use the original plastic connectors...
So I used new style bullets and plugged them in to where they needed without the plastic mounting connector.
Works good for the moment.
But need to find the right bits for it.
Did you check with Vintage Connections. I though I read that he has bullet terminals that work with OEM Japanese plastic connectors
And also check easternbeaver.com in Japan. I often have to buy connectors there because I can't find what I need locally.
I have check both those sites out a few times, but I could not find the original style bullet to work with the original connectors from the old ignition. So far the bullets I put on the Zeel wiring are working... but... I'm pretty picky about how I want my stuff.
Anyway, also wired in a quick shift since the Zeel has a wire for one.
Modified the new style bullets to work with my old plugs...
Ran up and down the road and all works as advertised.
Although pull shifter is not as smooth as the push version I have on my RGV.
