Title: Clutch Plate Order
Post by: Milan on August 20, 2022, 07:03:22 PM
I replaced the primary gear & clutch hub on my KH250.

I looked at the parts manual.
Fiber plate, spring, then steel plate. Repeat.

The Kaw shop manual I have.
Steel plate, spring, fiber plate. Repeat.

So which us corect?

Thanks.

how did it come apart? if the back of the basket is flat, then friction 1st, then steel. if its fingered, then steel, then friction.

Fiber first.

That picture is what I followed.

After thinking about it, it would not make sense to have the steel drive plate
naked on one side.

Its making a noise now at the plate area.
So I will take apart again & see.
Gasket has small drip as well.

Once the existing plates come off do they get a wear pattern?
Where if put back in a  different order it will make a sound?
Is there a front & back to the friction plates.

just stuff them in there. no dictated direction. the only thing i personally do it put the radiused edge 'in' towards the motor on the steels. make sure the clutch hub nut is tight.

Some Suzuki's use a steel first, and even a steel first and last and different numbers of fiber plates all on the same motor. Gets confusing when your memory sux and there are two or three configurations for the same thing.

seems the general rule of thumb is" if it has a 'full' built in plate int he pressure plate or hub, the one next to it is a friction. different year rds/r5s do this as well. .02

I mentioned a slight noise as well.

I did not remember to line up the clutch spring plate to its reference mark.
