Title: Damaged DG Perf 4 Heads
Post by: rlgrantjr on October 02, 2022, 10:42:26 AM
I bought a set of DG heads a while back and want to use them.  Both domes have piston and ring shrapnel damage.  I read a post some time ago about SCR saving a set of heads like this.  Does he still do this type of work?

I had this done in 2008, I don't know if SCR is still doing this, reach out to them.

These heads were re-domed for my 350.  My only mistake was not getting the ORing option..

After they came back I also got the heads and the swinger reannodized and chromed the head bolts:

It is my understanding that Scott retired and closed his shop.

Scott is still doing some work, under the radar.  Give him a call (760) 365-4505.

Good to know. I haven't talked to him in a long time but I have some items that need his expertise.

Thanks for Scott's #.  I need to ask him about the O-Ring size / brand he
uses on his RD250, o-ring head modification.
I am assuming it is a McMaster-Carr part.
Thanks, Jeff

You'll have to buy a 10 pack for $6.25 and shipping is $13.50. I love McMaster but for small orders it's tough.

Once you get the size check out theoringstore.com, sometimes it's a little cheaper.

Here we can take advantage of Will Call for McMaster orders. Just ride over and pick up, no shipping. Same with Sudco

Should be '039' o-ring. That is pretty much a universal number for that part/size. Same size as OEM Yamaha TZ230/350 o-rings.

Is this the McMaster O-ring you are referring to?

https://www.mcmaster.com/o-rings/dash-number~039/

Part number 9452K127

https://www.mcmaster.com/9452K127/

Looks like I'll need to order 100 qty.

Says max temp range 250F ?

(edit:)  Looking closer is see 8 other types of rubber with varying temperature ranges in that size.

Thanks, but I dont know stock TZ O-ring sizes.
Jeff

Just an FYI, I sent Scott a text rather than calling him as I really didn't want to bother him if he's retired.  I have not heard back.

I'm not sure that Scott texts people. His phone number might be a land line.

Thanks for the reply!  And I'm stupid!  I haven't had a land line in so long it did not occur to me that someone would.

So the metal finishing place was able to anodize the heads and not treat the chambers or mating surfaces? I've always been wondering if that was possible because I'd want mine that way but I've seen photos of some "refurbished" DG heads that are completely anodized.
I've never had any anodizing done (yet) but I've got some heads that I'd like to get re-done soon.

In my case the entire surface was reannodized.  I never thought too much about it.  Here's a pic of the last time I had the heads off...
