As far as $500 to do a frame?
Hourly rates are going up all over the country.
I personally absolutely hate sandblasting, and really have no where I can do it at home for a frame. Powder coating takes special equipment, and an oven big enough for a frame or more. If painting the frame to get a particular color you want, quality paint prices are astronomical now (just for the etch and hardener/primer and hardener/paint and hardener/clear and hardener...)
The frame is where a quality resto starts.
Sandpaper and a spraybomb, doesn't cut it for some, depending on the value of what the bike will be when done.
Just got this done by my guy James at nocamresto.com

He asked me not to post prices, but I will say it was less than $1500 for all five pieces.
Nice work from Nocam resto

RZ500 is at James' shop. Not sure the owner. He has a '71 H1 and a Kawasaki AR80 in progress as well.
thats great. local guy quoted me 1700 to do the ds7, with all the paintwork stripped to the metal by me. i told him go pound fucking sand. another shop quoted me 750 max. they both do same quality work... guess where im going. (eventually)
Damn...at those rates maybe I should start doing some side work again....
Gave it up after one too many Harley baggers... actually a few was all it took.
Pushrods are for lawnmowers.
Amen, brother Randy, amen.
With the current price of paint and considering the cost of labor/a person's time, I don't think that's too crazy. This is also assuming it's a quality paint job. At a certain point it needs to be worth the guy's time to do the job. Paint has gotten pretty expensive as well. I think most of us on this site are prone to do it ourselves though. I'd never pay that. I'll take the time to learn the skill and do it myself.
bullhshit. he was gouging. he wanted 5 hours to JUST shoot the tank. just spray it, with no prep. middle aged guy, pulls up on nice bike, (was ont he cb1100) he saw dollar signs. Guy in my neighborhood owns a body shop, he quoted the 750, said the paint was about 100-150.
