Title: Rearset Question
Post by: suey1958 on May 10, 2019, 08:36:45 AM
I bought RD350 rearsets from Slipstream Cycles off ebay,... Pretty sure the seller name is vintagerider.
Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship.
I noticed that there seems to be no mention or plan for a rear brake light switch. (unless I totally missed something)
Just wondering if this is normal with other rearsets?

That depends on the setup. But rigging a brake light switch is pretty simple anyway.  I do agree with the vendor of yours, that their brake cable setup is better than most. Maintained leverage,  no wonky linkage, and most likely lighter than any other setup using the original brake arm and stay setup

Can you post a link to these?

I was initially very skeptical of those Slipstream rearsets, but a few local guys rum 'em and say they are really great.

The rear cable setup looks to be a great idea as well.  We are doing the FFTP/Tarozzis on the KTR bike, and I was real disappointed to see that we have to keep the pillion peg hangers and all the heavy-ass clunky stock linkages.

Dunno about the brake light, but shouldn't be too hard to fab something up using the stock switch.

Only thing I wonder about is pipe mounting?

All aftermarket pipes (and stock pipes too) mount to the passenger peg mounts.

Where/how do you mount pipes with these Slipstream rearsets?

Looks like it will need a bracket added

The only negative I found was the footpegs offer no real grip and the shifter and brake pegs are too small for boots. I used Vortex foot pegs and tarrozi shifter pegs with them and junked the originals.

Not sure about that. Looks like the footpeg centerline would be at the muffler mount location. So the footpeg bolt/stud/nut can do double duty as muffler fastener as well.

However, for me, those pegs are too far back, basically at the passenger peg location. My personal sweet spot is at the upper of the 2 M8 lugs.

That's where the pegs are on the ones I build.

From experience I can say that Jspooner rearsets are super comfortable and easy to install.

+1 on the jspooner rearsets.  The foot pegs aren't the best but location, finish and installation is great.

Unless the stub off the back of the peg is long enough to hang the pipes off of it.

Looks like maybe that's what they were going for.
