Title: Carb cleaning with Pinesol
Post by: rodneya on March 03, 2023, 01:08:21 PM
So Ive seen it mentioned a few times recently that Pinesol is supposed to be a really good at getting gum and varnish out of your carbs,
Anybody actually use it?

People use it in their vibratory cleaners.

It a cheap solution to soak a carb in. It degreases well, it's easy to deal with because it's not dangerous and easy to dispose of.

Is it magical? No, not really. Hot water and dish soap is probably just as good. There are other light acid cleaners that will clean up aluminum too.

I think real Pine-Sol is hardly available these days, the pine oil is no longer used in the product. I'm not sure if pine oil was critical to the effectiveness of the product on carbs or not?

I was at Dollar ($1.25) Tree just yesterday to get degreasing supplies to clean my pipes while they are off.

Two great and cheap options there.
1) Awesome Orange - good degreaser but DONT SPRAY IT on your polished aluminum.  I learned that one.
2) Totally Awesome spray concentrate - Mark mentioned this years ago for Ultrasonic cleaners which I've used, but also fine for just soaking parts.

I got 64oz of Orange and 32oz of TA Spray.  $1.67.

I use TA for all sorts of cleaning. They use to sell it in gallons for like $4 at the one grocery store near me, that was the ticket. I haven't seen it in a few years though.

Never used Totally Awesome but I did see it at Home Depot the other day. It's expensive here, $10.50/gallon. The 32oz spray is $3.00

Do you dilute the Totally Awesome spray concentrate in the ultrasonic?

The one gallon of TA is available at Home Depot but not sure of the price.

Edit: SoCal nailed it

Yes, I dilute TA in the ultrasonic.  About 4:1 seems to work good.  You can feel the slippery surfactants in it...
Dollar Tree in NJ has it for $1.25 a quart.

I have been using diluted LA's TA for years in my ultrasonic.

Works great and super inexpensive at Dollar Tree.
