What am I missing here, besides the fact that I cheeped out. But why sell these if they don't fit properly, unless something is amiss?
I have flipped the bolts, moved bars down some on tubes. The only way this works is if I push the bars forward to a point where it's ridiculous.
use shorter head bolts. might clear.
That was my next thought. I'll remove the bolts first to see if that gives me X amount of wiggle room.
Thx.
Nope, still hits with bolts out. Ugh! Oh well, I really didn't like the looks, so I have that. I have some different clip-on bars that are 35mm. I guess I could try those, but what should I use as a shim, cutup an aluminum can or something? Or should I bite the bullet and spend some real money?
you can always mod the steering stops. i have drilled and tapped the lower tree with a 5mm screw int he past to make them adjustable. just an option
.020" brass sheet works well. you add .020" to each side thats 1mm net diameter change. or steel or aluminum
Tried aluminum, to thin. Found a soup can in neighbors recycle bin, perfect. :vroom:
Thx.
I suggest you make as much clearance as you can without affecting maneuverability. Otherwise, eventually the bike will go down and your tank with apparently original paint will have a ding or two.
Many years ago I rode around with clubmans and every once in awhile I lowsided, denting the tank and resulting in bondo with new paint. I probably did that three times in 12th grade, trying to impersonate Kenny Roberts.

I ended up welding extended stops onto the frame of my bike. Not everyone is going to want to go the route I did though.
Or, if this is a track bike, produce clearance dents in the tank.
Another issue I found with these clip-ons is that they frickn painted the heck out of them. So much so that I had to strip the paint off the right-side bar so the throttle would work properly. And these are sold on a lot of the sites that sell rd specific parts. Maybe I got a set built on Monday. :rant-1:
Hey look at that, I'm now "Dialed in." Yeah, that will be the day.

That's what I did, some weld on the steering stops then a little black touch up paint.
Is it possible to space the tank back a bit to get enough clearance?

I thought of that as well, but the seat that I have will not allow it. I'm all good now with the modified 35mm bars, or until I find something else that I have put on, only to find out I need to modify that or something else in order for it to work.
