Title: Install (new) 2013 Date Code Dunlop or not?
Post by: mnein on April 21, 2023, 09:27:41 AM
I have a brand new 2013 date coded Dunlop 90/90 that never went on a bike I sold. It has been sitting in the garage (no sunlight) since then, wondering your opinions on should I install this tire on my RZ or is it too old to expend the effort on? Thanks!

I would not. Dunlop recommends 6 years, but if stored in a temp controlled space then a little more. Those are at 10m years now. If you take it to a shop to install they should refuse.

i just replaced 'new' tires from 2018 that were on the tzr. the old ones felt fine, but they will break down fast.

I wouldn't risk it if you plan on really riding the snot out of it. if it was like an rd200 or 125, id say go for it.  :twocents:

I used to do work for a huge Goodyear factory warehouse/distribution center. Nothing over 3 years old would leave there to the tire stores. They would cut the beads on the side and throw them away. That said, I think the carcass part is ok, just the rubber gets harder and doesn't grip as well.
