Title: Rear brake light switch
Post by: LMS on July 14, 2023, 07:33:21 AM
75 with rear drum. This will probably be a dumb question but are these really needed? I'm moving to a cable setup, hopefully, and trying to figure out where to place the switch. I have a few ideas. I see a bunch of old rd's, no tabs, rear sets, etc. and no rear brake switch. Are people just relying on the fact that the front brake is used most, and not connecting the rear?

I bought the dime city cycles universal kit, has anyone installed this and got it to work?
Here's my problem(s). When looking at said kit and video, one assumes there are two springs. When I first looked at the pics I thought, that sure looks janky, but what the heck, out came the CC. Said kit showed up, one spring, even though it clearly shows two in their test bike. No mention that one needs another to make it work, but they mention brackets being needed, etc. It cracks me up that even they couldn't get it to work on test bike, so they spun a second spring around cable, thus the jankiness. I tried that as well, nope.
Next up, they show a nice bend in cable when installed, one would assume that since their test bike shows said bend, it must work fine. Lubed the hell out of the cable, test fitted. Even though there is no way I will be able to get this to work with my rearsets with lack of spring, etc. It binds/drags in sheathing. Now, if cable was almost straight, bingo.
Last but not least, not their issue. The brake arm on our bikes is too short, not sure if there are arms that one could get that would be longer, but even still, that will not help much. I tested all sorts of angles, attached their bracket up and down arm. I can get a nice curve, but everything else is f ed up. A longer arm would help a little in that it would relieve some tensions, but still doesn't address the bend in cable which causes drag, and lack of spring back.
Oh well, back to square one, I guess. In the parts bin this goes.
Is drink 0-clock time, yet?
