Post by: Karl squire on September 07, 2023, 12:22:14 PM
anyone have any success or tricks to install seal on a 73 rd350, the seal at the bottom end where the external plastic gear is? I'm not having any luck with this at all.

On the oil pump? What plastic gear are you talking about?

The plastic gear is the priming wheel.

There were different size seals in the kit I used. Had to pick and choose the correct one.

do you have the pump off the bike? I mean it just presses in, but admittedly I've had the pump apart every time I've done it

I think he's talking about the plastic drive gear inside the clutch cover. The shaft seal for that...

There's 2 seals that are very similar in size, the shaft seal and priming wheel seal. Look at the numbers, you want the one that says 21, the other one says 22 and won't fit. The 21 will push right in with little force.

He figured it out. He posted on Facebook too. Turns out he was trying to force in the wrong seal.
