Title: Me Again. And my new project, a '78 RD400
Post by: bigdavet on June 05, 2019, 11:01:52 PM
Me again.

Since my last post on the dot com site, I have left Florida and moved back to AZ, my home state. I WISH I'd never sold my '76 that I had in Florida; I thought it would be too much hassle strapping it to the back of the travel trailer for that 2500 mile trip home  :'( But at least he found a good home (Hi Frank!)

So of course, once I got home, I immediately started looking for a new project, and found a '78 RD400 with a little over 10K on the odometer in Vegas. I went and looked at it, rode it, decided that it was a filthy dirty example and needed a complete tear-down, paid WAY too much money for it, and brought it home. So now she sits in the garage in pieces, and I'm having the time of my life restoring it. Hopefully she'll be running by the end of the summer, but I don't care. It will be a sweet ride once it's done. (and hopefully I learned a few things from the first one)
Be prepared for a few questions, some advice, and a little whining. Sure am glad our forum is back!

Man, it did up close! That thing was as dirty as they come, every nook and cranny. Supposedly it was owned by the seller's dad since new, and probably never disassembled. It's ok, I'm loving it 😎

No, it's a front end off a XS 650. I have a stock front end for it, triple tree to the brakes and everything in between. It'll be all better when i'm done with it. And Chuck ID'd the pipes as Pipelines. It'll be interesting to see how he runs once he's all put back together.
