Was putting in a new battery for the RZ.
Hooked it all up.
Got distracted talking with my son.
Then hooked up wires & fuse blew.
Did not notice battery had the +. - reversed from the old one
Fixed wires, fixed fuse.
All lights, Servo test work.
Could this have caused any other damage?
Tried starting the bike but no.
( bike came from overseas, I got a running video of it prior, but it sat for a long time prior to me getting to it. Carbs are off now for referb, thinking its them, as plug was not wet with gas )
Or was Yamaha smart enough to realize some idiot like me would hook things up backwards, and took precautions?
M
battery won't affect running.
So hooking up the battery backwards and having the fuse blow, would not affect the controller or anything else?
M
nope. the cdi does not rely on any 12v source from the battery. (if its stock). Im not sure if running 12v positive thru it fried something thru the ground as ive never done that on an rz/tzr/etc, but, its possible. time to upgrade the cdi if you have no spark.
Im going to assume it ran before and had a stock ign.. or? I know you can fry a standalone zeel box with a voltage spike but some require a battery to work at all.
Carbs out for cleaning.
Did the exact same thing to mine a few years ago (stock ignition etc.) and nothing happened except the fuse. I felt pretty stupid afterwards.
