Hello,
I'm looking at getting a new set of tires and am wondering if there are any issues with moving to a larger 100/90 18 front tire for the rd350 73' :umm:

Good luck on finding the Avons here in the US...
agreed. bt46 is a good alternative
The 100/90 Avon on the front is a very tight fit. I put a 100/90 on the front of a '73RD and had to let the air out to get past the fender bolts. Ended up putting the 100/90 on the rear, and a 90/90 out front. Looks better too, but that's personal taste.

Thanks for all the great info! I think I'll stick with the 90/90 18 for the front.

How are you getting hooked up with Avon tires ?
Been looking for 130-70 and 110-80-18's for the Dymags on my RZ for a few years now.
Sorry for the super late reply: I found the Avons on eBay, and at a good price too! Seems 18's are low demand sizes.

Very nice rims/wheels.
Thanks for the feedback! Shouldered alloy rims are my fave
I ordered a 90/90 for my RZ and fat-fingered something. A 100/90 came in.
I'm using it anyway but if doing it again, I'd get the 100/80 in the BT46.
Wouldn't a 100/90 be just too wide for a stock RD350 rim?
Can't say I am 100% sure, but aren't the stock rims something like 1.60" and 1.85" wide?
Using wider tyres on narrow rims won't give the correct tyre shape.

You make a good point.

You end up using only 1/2 the tread available no matter how far you lean it over.

Randy, no personal experience buying bike tires through Summit (although I've bought a shitload of other stuff from them) but following the tip from Tim above I did a search and these popped up:

Does MRDRcycle have stock-width rims on his 73' RD350 ?
I just recently put a set of Shinko SR712R's on my RD250 with stock wheels. For sizing they read out on the sidewalls as 3.00-18 for the front which I believe translates to 80/100-18 and 3.50 for the rear, translating to 110/90-18...and I would just like to give Google credit for those standard to metric conversions. Not sure why Shinko uses inches to indicate tire sizes but it is what it is.
They don't have that beefier look I see on Warren's 350 :olaf: but they also don't have those awesome shouldered Aluminum rims. :'( I'm jealous...My Shinko's on the stock wheels just look proper and the bike handles great.
Good solid set of affordable tires I would say about those Shinko 712 series. My second one for the rear and a first for the front which did replace an Avon. I'm no expert on RD's or Avon's or even Shinko's I just buy what I find on Ebay, the best bargain.and even though it probably didn't need em I did get a set of new tire tubes as well.
Not sure what's so great about Avon's....in no particular order I just want proper date coded tires, correct size as designed by wheel maker and value. Just say'in.
My one 400 has a 110 rear and the other has a 100. Both have the stock rear wheels (1.85) The 110 has 1/4" more width of tread than the 100. I ride then about the same way. The wear shows that the 100 is using 1/4" more of the tread. The 100 is putting more of the rubber on the road.
