I am fixing a number of things on my bike and one of them is replacing the rubber damper between the speedometer and its outside housing.
I am stuck at removing the trip meter knob. There does not appear to be a center set screw. Turning the knob one way resets/moves the numbers and turning the other way it appears to free wheel. I gently tried pulling straight out, but I did not want to put too much force into it.
Any of you out there know how this thing comes off?

It's been a long time since I've had to remove or replace one but I think on a 400 it threads on (left hand threads) to the shaft.
IIRC the 250 & 350 have a screw in the center of the knob.
Yes, it threads on with left hand threads but how you hold the shaft from spinning to get it off seems very tricky. Maybe reach in there with small needle nose plyers and hold the shaft.

Update: so looking at my situation a little bit deeper, I realized that I could just lubricate the damper ring that I wanted to get over the trip knob, alleviating me having the need to remove it, which I determined I would've needed to remove the glass bezel, which would've been a bigger task in itself. I'm glad it worked out this way.
