Picked this up last Fall and went completely through it this winter. With a few early spring shake down rides, everything is dialed and ready for the riding season.
As a lifetime Yamaha YZ guy on the dirt, I was always intrigued by the 2 stroke twins and finally got one. It definitely hauls the mail, and the brakes are shockingly good.
Engine mods include Wicked Motorsports chambers, Vape ignition, cylinders decked for 400 head gaskets, ports cleaned-up, and reed spacers.

very nice indeed :burnout:
Really good looking bike!
Looks wonderful :vroom:
Wowza another 75' RD250 or in this case a sleeper build? Well not with those chambers, the neighbors will hear you coming long before they see you. That bike rocks and I just never grow tired of the 75' 250 paint scheme. I have one too but not quite as nice paint wise and I've kept the stock pipes. Those chambers are some of the best I've seen on a RD.
I like your slightly shorter stock fenders, kinda like a miniskirt for these RD's Gives it a playful hooligan stance.
I seriously dig the gold aluminum rims. I've been thinking about doing this to my bike, maybe not gold color but I can't help but think those wheels are way lighter than stock.
^^^ Thanks. The gold wheels are a nod to the '85 YZ's, which I always loved the looks of, and saved 4.7 pounds. They're just the cheap Thailand versions from ebay, but they laced and trued up beautifully with the original spokes.
I'm at 32 pounds weight savings currently. 21 of that was just in the chambers, wheels, battery, ignition, and removing the centerstand.
Wow that's awesome to know. Good info. I tried going that route with mine and found although I don't miss the extra weight I do like the look of the stock pipes and the function of the centerstand and that space created with the cavity between the stock airbox and gastank. I had the DG pipes on mine and tried em with the Y boot all this with the 250 top end and I never dialed in the jetting, needed to go richer so I reverted back to the stock airbox. Another bug for me was the stock footpegs, they look and feel great with the stock exhaust but not so much with chambers. However rear sets are expensive and homemade fab solution is out of my realm although I thought about it.
I did see those rims on Ebay and wondered about the quality, sounds good though. I would love to try them, nice to hear about them in a good way. I'd have to find somebody local to me to do that I think? I did do some googling on the matter and found Buchanan, the motorcycle wheel company, fascinating website and product offerings. I suspect one of the best. here's a link https://www.buchananspokes.com/categories/index.asp (https://www.buchananspokes.com/categories/index.asp)
Got a 75 RD 250 that was converted to a 350 years ago. It now has a vape system, reed spacers, Higgs speed chambers and VP billet heads. I'm getting close to having running again after it set in a friend's garage for 20 years. Still have to figure out where I want to mount the vape ignition coil.

I have a few good posts about non destructive mounting of a vape off the stock coil mounts. it can be done
I drilled a hole under the triangle reinforcement behind the frame neck on the left side and mounted the coil on an angle there with a spacer. It's awkward but worked well and tucked out of the way.

can also use flat piece of metal ta[[ed at an angle to mount it. we did that on matts 400. all bolt in.
