Title: Valve stem seals w out removing head on the KZ650
Post by: m in sc on April 21, 2025, 08:28:56 PM
like, the most 4 stroke thing ever. last owner a good friend, decided these were ok, and they were for about a year, but they finally gave up the ghost. and he had the head off...   either way, all sorted now with some mechanical jack-assery. also fixed a nagging leak on the LH side of the motor.

took it out the next day, did 132 ish miles, was really good (admittedly fixed leak on motor after 1st ride and second). it had gotten bad enough was getting on the rear tire.. :bang:  yes, i've been avoiding it.

air in the cyl to keep valve from dropping in. c clamp tool used totally wrong.

IMO this world doesn't have enough jack assery! It takes an advanced level of creativity, intuitive mechanical ability, analytical skills along with can-do attitude to pull off stuff others wouldn't attempt. Like a real-life Macgyver. They don't teach this stuff in school  :olaf:

I've done a few industrial engine valve seals with that technique. Learned to watch out because if the piston is at the top, the motor (and fan) will jump and turn when the air is turned.

yes! i knew that as well, last thing you need is it rolling over or backwards wadding up the cam chain.

TBH it was sort of me being lazy, i fully expected to not be able to get to the inner ones w the clamp tool. but it JUUUUST made it.  :metal:
