went ahead and picked this up today. needs some attention mechanically but got it running and riding today w Matt's help. clear title too.
:taz: Cool, congrats!
Looks really nice. Low miles and an early production bike.
Very cool!!! :taz:
Nothing like the cicadas drowning out the music from those stock pipes.
Looks really good!
Nice addition to the stable :olaf:
Looks original!
.. it is!
in cleaning mode. pipes were full of oil, presumably from 50 years of seepage thru oil pump check valves. drained thrm by sitting upright in a bucket w baffles out. had to dig out original packing, replaced w fresh stuff cut to size and wired back in. only thing ar this point I've used to clean pipes outside was wd40 and a soft brush. I sprayed the inside with brake clean and let it drain and dry out. baffles were set in carb dip.
Y'all ... it's REALLY nice. :nana:
Such a pretty little thing; seems perfect for the DGR.
so have been doing all the service stuff. replaced shocks, seals in forks, and got new tires.. pulling the rear wheel, I think I found out why it had low mileage. the rear tube was replaced at some point. aaand.. the left wheel rear spacer that the bearings ride on... was missing. :dead: this explains why it was so loose in the back end. luckily, it crosse with a few bikes and I found one on ebay. I'm sure the original wound up, in a mason jar of hardware in a basement somewhere in Ohio in the early 70s. 🤣 so everything else is ready and serviced and tuned. Just waiting on that last bit to show up.
The Mrs. looks good on it!
thanks. shes itching to ride it. I did little bit of cleanup. the petcock leaked fuel (prior) all over the lh engine cover. the badge on the points cover was also scratched up. so took all off, cleaned, and painted to match, new badge from yambits. also.. axle spacer arrived and the plate is on. put on new levers, the ends were broken off the old ones. new battery strap, high beam bulb, etc. :whoop: need to get that spacer installed tonight then it's ready. there was an unreal amount of long oily grass packed into the chain cover, so this def did some off road time. lol
Nice progress. Its looking great.
honestly this thing was in such nice shape to start off with it's not really a challenge of any kind, but it's def fun
Pretty good looking Yamaha mini-Twin
Kinda jealous about how easy it must be to get a tag in SC, Mark. It's a nightmare here in NC.
Being a sticker boy, I'm in on 2SW stickers if you ever get a line on having more made.
Back in the good old days, Yambits used to send a sticker with every order and I've used mine up.
That bike is super clean and VERY cool. Congrats on your acquisition!
Thanks, i mean it came with a clear current title. this one was super easy. ive some some sketch shit though on other ones to make them legit.
I have some stickers still.
so the last bit of what i was wanting to do, then back to modifying other bikes and stop rivet counting.
the one big cosmetic flaw was a burned out neutral light. somebody int he past had this thing on a battery charger for a ridiculously LONG time w the key on. This also cooked the points pretty bad. (very pitted). somebody had also fit the LONG style instrument bulbs only to the tach side for some weird reason. this resulted in the 'N' light lens getting burned out of the gauge and it actually melting the gauge face around it. I'll be honest, i've never seen this before.
the only real feasible answer was to order an NOS one.
Im sure if people on here have looked for stuff there's a weird cache of NOS yamaha stuff from Indonesia on ebay. its not terribly cheap but not outrageous either. so i took a chance and ordered one. showed up and lo and behold, exactly what t was described to be. w shipping was 198 ish. got that on and : done. also, tightened up the seat strap a bit as it had stretched over the years some. (took strap off, punched new hole in and remounted/cut tail off).

198ish... I don't feel near as bad as I did earlier today when I gave FedEx $155 to ship the Gray Ghost oil pump to the UK for upgrade
:olaf:
That's bitchin' cool, Mark
Man that thing is killer.
Kaw, you won't regret sending that pump off to Arrow. Mines been top notch and looks exactly as it should stock.
I have heard nothing but great things about him. I can't wait to see the results.
that 'barn find fresh' clutch . lol luckily still active yamaha part numbers so new ones ordered and in, including a new gasket .. from the dealership
had a bit of 'silt' in the tank last weekend so have to do another tank rinse out. this time did it with evapo-rust for a few hours, then drained, rinsed and oiled the tank. since i had it off, i went ahead and did the preventative sv coil swap-out as well. I also 3d printed some standoffs for the coil that 'snap on'to the bar of the coil. (the .stl file in is sv coil thread now)

also, does any other model have this oil line retainer tab on the RH carb bowl? ive never seen this befor eon any bike, it absolutely the same age as everything and for sure stock. weirdly, it isnt even shown in the microfiche that i could find.
:umm:
