Title: Crank seal question/ RD400 Daytona
Post by: Aloha808 on December 22, 2025, 12:22:24 PM
I want to make sure I install the crank seals in the right direction.  The service manual says to face the lettering on the seals outwards.  The left side (smaller one) has the word "outside" written on it. So, not a problem. The right side (larger seal) just has lettering on it.

The first picture, shows the side with the lettering on them.  Although it is too small to see the lettering in the picture.  I think this is the correct way.

I am a little confused because I watched a guy on a you tube video install them backwards.  Like the second picture below.   :umm:

Thanks

Outside of seals, facing the rotor and clutch

The small one is easy, but for the large one, see the blocks on one side?  They position the seal the correct distance from the outer bearing race, so it's easy to work out which way is in and which is out.

Well, I am glad I asked.

Thank you gentlemen.
