Super nice build.

I don't see anything that is related to a Grom.

there's lots of great, and not so great grom builds. I mean, I get it. ive had one since day 1, the aftermarket is absolutely insane. you  can build one from scratch, with all aluminum perimeter frames, etc. its nuts

Yeah that's quite a custom built Grom. I imagine one thing left from the original is the Vin. #'s. So what's the biggest two stroke engine put in one of those I wonder?...Banshee powered, I have seen that.

thats as big as ive seen on thev2t front. ive seen a ktm300 in one, thats a handful. mines a torque monster and signs off early , thankfully.  I specifically didn't want peaky

A KTM300 engine, that's cool. I sorta like that better than a banshee engine. Or a CR125 like they did. Only cause I had a lot of ideas about terrorizing my local roads with a hopefully street legal dirt bike supermotoe'd. I know KTM has those grey area titles for the XCW's and those willing to convert to their state street title blah, blah BS. Also those XCW's do have the lighting coil you would need and electric start, also pretty light even as a dirtbike...I think. Now I did also read the newer fuel injected ones kinda suck, but.. with my limited facilities, tools and funds this just seems easier and maybe the best end product of enjoyment, a better balanced machine made for an adult sized person to whip properly around their riding venues.

That Grom is certainly a dream machine. It's funny because with the right stuff I can see what you did and why you did it Mark...with yours. I think this custom one is so over the top and of course I like it but I really like yours better.

As an aside,I hardly ever see a reasonably priced liquid cooled two stroke bike engine for sale at what I consider an affordable price. I do see from time to time folks will sell for example a cr250 engine with the carb and ignition but it's up there at about $3-4k asking price and that to me is pricey. Could be a 500cc or 250cc sometimes it's a KX model or something of the like. I dunno just seems like you gotta have all the right stuff to make a Grom two stroke swap work realistically cheap if that makes sense?

Sorry to thread drift a bit but a fella's gotta dream.Just living in two smoker envy.Consider it my today's contribution to forum scuttle butt.

I have a street legal (fuel-injected)'23 300xcw TPI. I just got a set of supermoto wheels for it, too.

It does not suck.

I street-legaled a YZ250.  Did not go with SM wheels, but was still pretty fun. It's what gave me the bug to get an RD.

Awesome good info ripping it on the street with the dirt bikes.  I grew up riding some cool dirt bikes, I started probably kinda late at the age of 15 and had my last one about the age of 20. A lot of local woods to ride got developed and I didn't have quite enough money to keep a dirt bike and a car on the road anyways and never mind wanting to have a street bike.

So hey I remember your RD it's a 75' 250. That's bikes a ripper! You did a nice job with it and kept the old paint I like that. I got the same bike, I'll have to take a pic someday to prove it. Mine is pretty much stock and original looking though.

getting ready to street legal my 2022 Beta 300 X-Trainer once Spring arrives. It comes 99% street legal already and here in CO all it needed is a mirror and Motor Vehicle inspection. Mirror is on now. My few dirt riding buddies here have no time any more it seems so it has to be able to go on the street instead of just sitting there taunting me in the shop. No SM mods coming, just better dual-purpose DOT tires than stock Shinkos.

Beta

to me represents a modern reimagining of the original Yamaha enduro models going back to early 1970s incorporating relevant mechanical & electrical technology advances but not too many whistles and bells for Luddites like me to use and enjoy  :vroom:

Ha,ha that's awesome. I have much respect for you to take the plunge$$$...I know you have had many bikes and you are meticulous with some of those older restorations. I thoroughly enjoyed your chronicles or resurrecting that LC

Yeah I tend to read a lot of folks experiences and watched some YT clips about the newer fuel injected 300's. I guess they may just come a bit lean from the factory, maybe theirs something else that was going, I do tend to forget exactly what the issue was. Just to say that some people had some grips about the bikes not idling well or have poor throttle response in the lower part of the rev range. You gotta love em though, I mean for KTM to do what they have been doing with two strokes in this day of age and they are oil injected.
