Title: A Mid-Summers Refurb
Post by: Kawtriplefreak on June 27, 2026, 10:43:39 PM
I took the RD350B out for a romp and it ran great.

I have been wiping down a seep from the clutch cover for a month or so and it is getting worse. And of course the paint is peeling off the head pipes on my newly painted chambers.

Pipes off. Engine covers disassembled,  cleaned, masked off and once all the threaded holes have bolts in them they are ready for the bead blast cabinet
The plan is to repaint the engine covers with Duplicolor Ceramic caliper paint and strip just the head pipes on the chambers. Then paint just the head pipes flat black 2000 degree high temp.If that doesn't stay on it back to the drawing board.

I managed to keep the water separator emptied and got them bead blasted. Ready for a wipedown with denatured alcohol and a good hot day for paint.

I never thought of that. I love my pipes bare metal. The head pipes turn black in about a day. This is a good compromise. Just mask off and paint the head pipes...

Hopefully it will stay on and not peel off this time. I am about ready to save up to take them to the local powder-coat/ cerakote shop and give them way too much money to do them. I have never had this much trouble getting paint to stick to anything.

Looks great. For whatever it's worth, I enjoyed learning how to powder coat with my case covers. $40 cheap powder coating gun on marketplace, $35 toaster oven plus a 1lb of single stage powder ($13). Looks like you have everything else you would need.

I've spilt fuel, oil, brake cleaner and it hasn't touched the original finish at all.

Pictures aren't for the purists  :boom:

Very nice! I have thought about trying to learn how to do it.

I ran it up today for 10 minutes after mowing grass all day. Made sure it was oiling and so far so good no leaks.
