Title: Very bizarre ride today.
Post by: 1976RD400C on July 31, 2026, 01:05:39 PM
I had an interesting ride this morning. I come around a turn heading down a long straight and I see a cone on each shoulder of the road and a guy waves at me. I slow right down and finally am absolutely crawling when I get there. Where did he go? I catch a glimpse of him way over on the left in a field. I check the road and all looks clear as I crawl forward.  Next thing a know, there is this thin string hooked on my headlight and I'm pulling it along. My brain was in overload checking everything that was going on as I approached but thinking there was a string strung across the road was the last thing I was looking for. Here he comes screaming at me. "I told you to f...ing stop!" I'm trying to get f...ing  cows back across the street"! I said, "why weren't you in the street with your hands up telling me to stop as I got close?" He started screaming "F ...  you f... you" right in my helmet. "Get the f... out of here".  I think the string thing was to corral the cows in the right direction. So, I slowly pulled away, on the public road I was on.  I left calm. His blood pressure must have been through the roof. Smoke was ready to come out of his ears and maybe pop a vein.  Some people have to learn to chill and do things the right way.  :umm:

Wow that sounds crazy for sure. I have never hit a cow roadside nor have I ever encountered a string across a  public road. Luckily it was headlight level and not neck level.

Also very sensible for you and the way you handled it coming to a near crawl as you stated. You were also very calm as stated. Some of us may have been tempted to get off our bikes and knock the idiot out.

Sounds like that dude spends too much time around cows, and not enough time around people.

Or maybe vice-versa.

Indeed a strange encounter but as stated above you did handle it sensibly. These days everyone seems to be on edge so I do try to keep distance. Divorces, loss of jobs, just a bad day .... who knows what else.

After thinking about it a bit, he was all wound up before I got there dealing with his out-of-control cow situation and then I screwed up his string across the road plan.

I believe you are correct.  Very mature response.
