I'm in the process of swapping a front end and need to modify the steering stops.
Is there any reason I need to remove the wiring loom in order to weld a few millimeters of material to the head tube stop? What precautions would you take? I'd place the ground clamp at the top of the tube, torch at bottom.
Disregard the bearing. This has since been removed. Second picture is an example of what I'm trying to achieve.
I do have an electronic ignition (Dyna S), if that matters
I think you are good to go with the ground clamp on the headstock. I did one years ago by welding pieces of square key stock on each side.
not going to damage any electronics. however, i would get a rag, wet in water and wrap the harness near any heat areas .

Thanks for the tips, guys. My goal with this particular build was to leave the frame 100% unmolested, and was hesitant to weld the frame, prior to asking this question. Sure, I could grind it down and take it back to stock with ease.
I am going to try a different route. Will grind the frame stops off the lower triple, drill and tap an M6 (M8?) and send these bad boys home with loctite. It should allow a very specific radius and allow this bike to evolve over the years.
Either way, I appreciate your advice, as I'm sure I'll cross this same situation in the future.
